Eitan became the hero of well-known Mossad commando raids. In , for example, he played a decisive role in the abduction of the Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann from Argentina. After an Israeli court sentenced Eichmann, the master spy insisted on accompanying the delinquent to his execution.

Unlike France, who terminated her nuclear collaboration with Israel in , Israel possesses no uranium mines in allied African states and especially not enough highly enriched material.

A Mossad team put out feelers to locate secret avenues of supply. They searched for weak points in the network of international control — and for potential sympathizers. Once with a small American company, located in Apollo Pennsylvania and belonging to a brilliant young scientist. Zalman Shapiro is the son of an orthodox rabbi who lost part of his family in the Holocaust, an ardent Zionist and admirer of Israel. His company "Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corp.

Numec " supplied the quickly growing number of commercial nuclear reactors. As well, the plant temporarily stored larger quantities of highly enriched uranium for government contracts. The Mossad team manages to divert the precious material and to transport it to Israel. Numec director Shapiro does not report the loss. It is months before the United States Atomic Energy Commission discovers, in the course of routine checks, that more than kilos of uranium have disappeared.

Soon after that, he shut Numec down. A later investigative report by the American Congress stated cryptically: A company in Italy is listed as end user — the deal remains within the EWG and therefore seems relatively unsuspicious.

Nobody in Brussels suspects that the Italian dye factory has never had anything to do with uranium before and only signed the papers because it considers itself merely a middleman, tempted by a hefty commission. The supervisory body Euratom approves the purchase.

But the hot goods never arrive in the destination port in Genoa. Top agent Eitan has thought of everything, and bought a worn-out ton freighter from a Hamburg ship owner. The "Scheersberg A" takes on the load in Antwerp — and then vanishes in the Mediterranean. Later on, embarrassed Euratom functionaries reconstruct how the trip must have gone. And from there, they were shipped to Dimona, to serve in the manufacture of several atom bombs. Rafi the Stinker is promote to Vice-Chief of the Mossad.

In late the "Scheersberg" reappears in southern Turkey; there is no trace of her crew. The logbook contains no entries for the trip from Antwerp. Uranium buyer Schulzen declares that he only carried out the deal in the role of intermediary, on behalf of a client he did not know. Had the Mossad acted alone in this? On the few occasions when Eitan spoke with journalists — after he retired from active espionage - he passionately denied any such help.

In fact it took the CIA years to uncover the Israeli nuclear weapons program. In late , when John F. At the start of his term of office, JFK was more favorably disposed towards Israel than almost any previous American President had been - "after all, New York Jews voted me into office, now I have to do something for them," he said to friends — but his fear of the proliferation of nuclear weapons was even stronger.

Kennedy gave Ben-Gurion an ultimatum to put Dimona under the supervision of specialists. Ben-Gurion balked, but realized that inspections could no longer be avoided. When the American scientists arrived for their pre-announced inspection, the Israeli secret service managed to lead them up the garden path. In Israel constructed its first, primitive atom bomb, and not even the Americans managed to miss that. When asked, the Israelis fobbed the White House off with a deliberately wishy-washy standard phrase which the diplomat Shimon Peres uses frequently and which expresses official Israeli policy to this day: For several days around October 9, the world teeters on the edge of a nuclear war.

The 13 bombs are returned to their underground desert bunkers. Ever since the s Jerusalem has observed with great concern the rapid nuclear advances of Iraq in particular. With help from France, Saddam Hussein built a most suspicious nuclear reactor in Tuweitha south of Baghdad. In the early morning hours of June 7, , Begin launches eight F fighter planes, armed with 1,kilo bombs and accompanied by six F interceptors.

They reduce the reactor, located kilometers from the Israeli border, to rubble and ashes. Before the Iraqis have even realized what happened, the bomber planes have returned unscathed to their base near Eilat. This prudent politician, at that time a member of the Opposition, had been one of the few politicians to be made privy to the plan, and had argued vehemently against it as being too great a risk to the lives of the pilots as well as to future relations with the Arab nations.

According to the political scientist Yoel Cohen, at the start of the Lebanese Campaign in Sharon urged the Cabinet in all seriousness to prepare a nuclear strike against Syria because the Syrians were allegedly about to attack the Golan Heights. The most mysterious affair in the history of the mystery-shrouded Israeli nuclear weapons program begins.

It is linked to a Moroccan-Jewish name: His parents — he a grocer, she a seamstress — live the life of a middle-class family in Marrakech. Mordecai is one of six children; like the others he grows up trilingual, and speaks Arab and French better than Hebrew. Nine-year-old Mordecai attends strictly orthodox schools until he graduates. He goes to study physics in Tel Aviv, but quits after one year. Like many of the Oriental Jews, his political leanings are strongly right-wing.

Mordecai Vanunu wants to make money quickly and so he applies to the "Nuclear Research Center" Dimona. In he passes an intensive course in physics, chemistry, mathematics and English — and a security check. He is issued Service ID No. As the new employees now learn, this eight-story, largely underground complex is used to produce plutonium.

All of them must sign a pledge of secrecy. Vanunu becomes inspector of the night shift, a job that takes him through every department of Machon 2. For nine years he does his monotonous routine job reliably and inconspicuously. In the meantime he attends philosophy courses at the University of Beersheba.

His specialty is Nietzsche. And in the process his political leanings change. Vanunu gives the student newspaper inflammatory interviews, attends courses given by the Israeli communists — hard to imagine that the omnipresent Internal Security Service could have missed all that.

In December employees are laid off in Dimona, allegedly "for economic reasons". Vanunu is among these — and even before he picks up his discharge papers he joins the Communist Party "Profession: But the loner finds no friends in the Party, and an affair with a midwife ends in a break-up. Vanunu decides to take a trip to the Far East. He takes his camera along. Another item in his luggage: Explosive photos that the nuclear plant inspector took in the top-secret Machon 2 installation — allegedly without anyone noticing.

He makes a living there as taxi driver, and in the Anglican Church of St. John he makes friends with the minister. He converts to Christianity. The pacifist Bible studies confirm Vanunu in his rejection of the Israeli nuclear program. The newspaper flies Vanunu to the British capital. The story that is published on October 5, becomes a world sensation.

The politicians may continue to dodge a clear confirmation, but the clearly genuine photos prove it: Israel has approximately to atom bombs. Under orders from the Mossad, a pretty blonde lady made overtures to him in London and lured him onto a British Airways plane for a holiday in Rome. There are rumors that he had been drugged in Rome and abducted on a ship.

In a secret trial a court in Jerusalem sentenced Vanunu to 18 years in prison, most of them in isolation. The utter failure of the Dimona supervisory authorities is puzzling to this day. These days, the three characters from the nuclear crossroads - Shimon the Peace-Loving, Rafi the Stinker and Mordecai the Doubter — face vastly different futures.

Rafi Eitan has grown bitter and has withdrawn into private life, to try his hand at business. Sometimes he works as a real estate agent in West Jordan, sometimes as dealer in ornamental fish; his office is in Cuba and he has had several opportunities to meet Fidel Castro.

He did not make it to the position of Chief of the Mossad, and since his high-handed recruitment of the scientist Jonathan Pollard, who spied on the United States for Israel, Eitan has become a persona non grata in America. On the websites of hardcore conspiracy theorists Eitan has recently been touted as the man behind the New York terrorist attack of September 11, — and is said to be currently planning another, no less monstrous deed.

Mordecai Vanunu is supposed to be released from Ashkelon Prison on April An American married couple who adopted him, and an Anglican minister who befriended him, are planning a huge party for him in the United States, which is where the prisoner hopes to emigrate to. His fans have nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. As yet it is anything but certain whether he will actually be released. Under a law normally only used against suspected Palestinian terrorists, the Ministry of Defense wants to continue to keep Vanunu behind bars — or at least to release him only on his pledge that he will keep silent about his experiences in Dimona and his abduction.

Israel is believed to possess the largest and most sophisticated arsenal outside of the five declared nuclear powers. Israel has never admitted possessing nuclear weapons, but abundant information is available showing that the capability exists. A short essay on the history of Israel's nuclear weapons program April revelations about Israeli-South African nuclear collaboration The center of Israel's weapons program is the Negev Nuclear Research Center near the desert town of Dimona the center is usually identified simply as "Dimona".

A nuclear reactor and plutonium production facility was built by France at this facility in the late s and early 60s. All of the production and fabrication of special nuclear materials plutonium, lithium-6 deuteride, and enriched and unenriched uranium occurs at Dimona although the design and assembly of nuclear weapons occurs elsewhere. Vanunu had worked at the Machon 2 facility, where plutonium is produced and bomb components fabricated, for 9 years before his increasing involvement in left wing pro-Palestinian politics led to his dismissal in Due to lax internal security, prior to his departure he managed to take about 60 photographs covering nearly every part of Machon 2.

Mordechai Vanunu 35 K. After travelling around the world for several months in Bohemian style, he converted to Christianity in Australia. The religious group he associated with has an activist anti-nuclear bent and he soon decided to make public his knowledge of Israel's nuclear weapons capability. He made contact with the London Sunday Times which flew him to London and began preparing an exclusive news story.

Unfortunately for Vanunu, the Israeli government had found out about his activities and the Mossad arranged to kidnap him and bring him back to Israel for trial. Mordechai Vanunu revealing details of his capture 39 K. For an even bigger image 57 K click here. He was successfully lured into a trap by a female Israeli agent named Cheryl Bentov operating under the name of "Cindy". His sudden disappearance before the publication of the Sunday Times story was mysterious at the time.

The story was finally published several days later on 5 October A few motnhs later Vanunu's status as a prisoner of the Israeli government was confirmed when it was revealed that he would stand trial. Despite being essentially incommunicado, Vanunu managed to reveal details of his capture in dramatic fashion when he wrote the information on the palm of his hand, and held it up for news photographers as he was being whisked away from the courthouse.

As described by Vanunu, the Dimona complex has nine buildings "Machons", Hebrew for "facility" including to the reactor building. The plant employs people. Control room of the Machon 2 plutonium separation plant courtesy Mordechai Vanunu 31 K.

Bomb components made of plutonium, lithium-6 deuteride, and beryllium are fabricated in level 5 of Machon 2. They are transported by convoys of unmarked cars to the warhead assembly facility, operated by Rafael north of Haifa.

The principal uncertainty in evaluating Israel's weapon production capability is the actual power level of the Dimona reactor. It has long been believed that Israel has upgraded the reactor repeatedly to increase its plutonium production. Vanunu claimed that Israel possessed nuclear weapons implying some kg of plutonium and can produce 40 kg of plutonium a year. This production figure indicates an average operating power of MW thermal.

Analysts generally discount figures this high, and the consensus is that it was initially operated at 40 MW and was upgraded to 70 MW sometime before A study by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute SIPRI produced a somewhat lower range of estimates, concluding that Israel has produced kg of plutonium through , enough for a stockpile of efficient weapons the extreme estimate range was to kg.

According to Vanunu fuel rods are irradiated for periods of about three months before discharge for plutonium extraction.

At 70 MW the Dimona reactor would consume some 48 tonnes of fuel a year and produce about 18 kg of plutonium. Vanunu also claimed that Israel possessed fusion boosted weapons, and has developed hydrogen bomb technology. He provided information about both lithium-6 and tritium production. He stated that initially tritium was produced by a facility in Machon 2 called Unit 92 by separating it from the heavy water moderator where it is produced in small amounts as a by-product.

In production was expanded when a new facility called Unit 93 was opened to extract tritium from enriched lithium that had been irradiated in the reactor. The large scale production of tritium by Israel has been confirmed by South Africa, which received a shipments of tritium totalling 30 g during This clearly indicates tritium production on a scale sufficient for a weapon boosting program.

It is difficult to find any other rationale for such a large tritium production capability except some sort of thermonuclear weapon application. It is quite difficult to develop gas fusion boosting technology like that used in US weapons and weapons tests are probably essential. Although radiation implosion weapons could be developed without testing, they would tend to be large and heavy and would perhaps be incompatible with Israel's available delivery systems.

Tritium could be used to spike the fusion fuel and boost the yield, just as the Soviets did with the Kt "Joe-4". Hersh reports without any stated source that Israel has developed an extensive array of tactical nuclear weapons: With an arsenal that is quite possibly in excess of weapons it is likely that some of the nuclear materials would be applied tactical weapons.

Boosted bombs are doubtful, as are neutron bombs, due to problems with development in the absence of a significant testing program. Neutron bombs also require very large amounts of tritium g per weapon which would impact the production of plutonium quite seriously each gram of tritium displaces 80 grams of plutonium production.

Artillery shells are also doubtful due to their wastefulness in plutonium. Tactical weapons are probably aircraft or missile delivered, or are pre-emplaced mines. Burrows and Windrem claim without indicating a source that Israel has produced warheads, including those that have since been dismantled. They place the current arsenal at about weapons. Several reports have surfaced claiming that Israel has some uranium enrichment capability at Dimona. Vanunu asserted that gas centrifuges were operating in Machon 8, and that a laser enrichment plant was being operated in Machon 9 Israel holds a patent on laser isotopic enrichment.

According to Vanunu the production-scale plant has been operating since The scale of a centrifuge operation would necessarily be limited due to space constraints, and might be focused toward enriching depleted reactor fuel to more efficiently use Israel's uranium supply.

A laser enrichment system, if developed to operational status, could be quite compact however and might be producing weapon grade material in substantial quantities. If highly enriched uranium is being produced in substantial quantities, then Israel's nuclear arsenal could be much larger than estimated solely from plutonium production. Reports that Zalman Shapiro, the American owner of the nuclear fuel processing company NUMEC, supplied enriched uranium to Israel in the s seems to have been authoritatively refuted by Hersh.

Israel produces uranium domestically as a by-product of phosphate mining near the Dead Sea but this amounts to only 10 tons a year, and is grossly insufficient for its needs. Israel has addressed this shortfall by reprocessing the low burnup spent fuel to recover uranium which most nations do not do.

It is also known to have purchased at least tons of natural uranium on the world market under an alias. A major source though was some tons of uranium provided by South Africa in a quid pro quo for Israel's assistance on its weapons program. Combined with uranium recycling, and the possible use of enrichment to stretch the uranium supply, these quantities may be sufficient to account for Dimona's fuel supply to the present date Israel can undoubtedly deploy nuclear weapons using its capable air force.

The aircraft and crews dedicated to nuclear weapons delivery are located at the Tel Nof airbase. Originally the F-4 Phantom II acquired in was probably the designated carrier, today it would be the F The F has an unrefueled radius of action of km, extending out to western Iran, the shores of the Black Sea, Riyadh, or the Libyan border.

With refueling it can travel much farther of course, and an unrefueled one-way mission could take it as far as Moscow. Israel also possesses medium-range ballistic missiles: Under development is the Jericho-2B with a range of 2, km. These missiles were almost certainly developed specifically as nuclear delivery systems although chemical warheads cannot be ruled out. About 50 Jericho-1s and 50 Jericho-2s are believed to have been deployed.

Israel also has a or more US supplied Lance tactical missiles, with a range of km 72 miles. Although these were supplied with conventional warheads, they could have been outfitted with nuclear or chemical ones. It is based on the French missile MD built by Dassault and was developed during the s. Two stage solid propellant Range: Jericho-2 development is indigenous, and started soon after the Jericho-1 was deployed. Test launches began in and the first two had ranges of km and km The Jericho-2 shares the first two stages of the civilian Shavit Comet space launch vehicle, which has launched Israel's four satellites, the Offeq-1, 2, and 3 reconnaissance satellites, and the Amos communications satellite.

Shavit space launch vehicle, Offeq-2 launch on 3 April 13 K. Located a few kilometers to the northwest is Tel Nof air base. Images of the missile complex made by commercial satellites have been published in recent years, and September Jane's Intelligence Review published a 3-D analysis of high resolution pictures taken by the Indian IRS-C satellite.

The complex is compact - smaller than 6 km x 4 km. The missiles are mobile, being deployed on transporter-erector-launchers TELs , and are based in bunkers tunneled into the side of the limestone hills. There are no signs of missile silos. TELs require firm, accurately leveled ground in order to launch, and maximum missile accuracy requires pre-surveyed launch points.

Consequently there are a number of prepared launch pads paved culs-de-sac connected to these bunkers by paved roads. Images of an actual Jericho 2 TEL indicate that it is about 16 m long, 4 m wide, and 3 m high.

It is accompanied by three support vehicles probably a power supply vehicle, a firing control vehicle, and a communications vehicle. The Zachariah missile base was enlarged between and during the Jericho-2 deployment. A few kilometers north of Tel Nof is the Be'er Yaakov factory where the Jericho missiles and the Shavit are believed to have been manufactured.

From its deployment location in central Israel the Jericho-1 missile can reach such targets as Damascus, Aleppo, and Cairo. The short range of the Lance limits it mainly to battlefield use, although the Syrian capital of Damascus is in range from much of northern Israel. Also located at the site are a group of 21 bunkers thought to contain nuclear gravity bombs.

Five of the larger ones are about 15 m wide and 20 m long, and rise 6 m above ground. Israel has taken active steps to prevent nations that are officially at war with it from acquiring nuclear capabilities.

The bombing of the Osiraq reactor in Iraq in is the most famous case, but an earlier sabotage of the reactor core in France prior to shipment is probably attributable to Mossad. Israel's official policy is that it will not be the first nation to introduce nuclear weapons into the Middle East.

In contrast to the coy hinting of some undeclared weapon's states, Israel thus actively denies possessing nuclear weapons. Its obvious capability in this regard has thus established de facto deterrence, while minimizing but not eliminating domestic and international controversy.

United States General Terrorism News: Dimitar knew the truth, since he once made an effort to find out, when he was working as a senior agent for this CSS Committee for State Security — the secret services of the Communist era that preceded the SANS.

This was a genuine Bulgarian patent that the KGB had nothing to do with. It was an invention of one of the scientists from the Committee for State Security CSS and the CSS personnel and later on people from the SANS used it, not necessarily for killing enemies of the regime, but in order to protect themselves under special circumstances.

But the umbrella was only used as a murder weapon in one famous case for killing off a dissident in England. But the umbrella was used on many other occasions. He didn't say this during the lecture, but this made him doubt everything the man had to say during the course of the lecture.

And now it turns out that his suspicions may have had an even more solid basis than he thought back then. In fact, that same lecturer, that is, of course, our friend here, used money that didn't belong to him in order to establish 'Francine — Information Systems', a company which the journalist knew nothing about. The journalist became suspicious after years of receiving dodgy answers concerning the condition of his property in Bulgaria.

Finally, the journalist came to Bulgaria. He found a lawyer, Rosita Neskaya Gleivska, who claimed that she bought land for him with his money, but refused to provide any additional details concerning this matter.

All of the documents she provided were clearly counterfeit. It was obvious to the journalist that this was a case of fraud and that he was set-up by a gang. His money was not used to purchase any kind of profitable asset, yet for something else that was profitable just for someone else.

He addressed the Bulgarian police in regards to this matter, but all he received was a beating from people claiming to be Bulgarian cops. He found himself half-dead by a museum, in Varna. It turns out that the Israeli lecturer had good connections with the Bulgarian police.

D imitar, who was well-aware of the vast level of corruption within the Bulgarian police, sighed. This was not the only case. He once heard an expert estimating that every fourth cop in Bulgaria is corrupt. In Bulgaria, anyone wishing to retrieve debts could use private security services. There were too many such cases concerning foreigners in Bulgaria. This was the fate of anyone who was not familiar with the laws of the Bulgarian jungle. The journalist was a fool to trust the Israeli lecturer, who was obviously a crook.

When the journalist tried to enter the politician's office, he was severely beaten by the politician's bodyguards, just for trying to enter with no apparent reason. The politician was obviously warned in advance by someone. Despite the beating that he had received, the journalist reached the conclusion that the case must be brought to the attention of the SANS, due to the identity of the fraudster. Nobody ever heard of many cases of land fraud in which the fraudster was also a university lecturer and the head of an international company fighting against Internet fraud.

This was clearly no a 'normal' scam, but the basis for something else, something bigger. We heard everything he had to say. We put him on a plane and we started snooping around. Ever since, we've on a constant watch-out, but due to all of the internal crises at the agency, which you're well aware of, we haven't had a chance to do much beyond this.

If it turns out now that the company 'Francine — Information Systems', which the journalist claims should be his, since his money was used by the lecturer to establish it, even if this was done without the journalist knowing about it, is indeed involved in espionage, this sheds a different light on the whole matter.

There might be a need to takeover the company using the name of the journalist claiming that his money was used in order to establish it. What he did in Bulgaria, his connections, everything. And send a message to our embassy in Tel-Aviv that at this stage, until we clarify the truth about this politician and his friends, he's defined as a 'Persona non grata', as far as we're concerned, and we shouldn't communicate with him or have him communicate with us on any official matters.

He quoted a proverb: Dimitar hunched up his shoulders: We shall let them know as soon as we have more solid information. Dimitar wondered if the Russians were now behind the company? Could it be that the Israeli lecturer that was the company's president was merely their agent?

Kalinka started a lecture on this matter, using presentation slides on the wall. The slide showed a photo of Estonia's capital city, Tallinn. And the Internet had become an intrinsic part of the Estonian citizens' lives: They seemed to be on the road to membership in the European Union and economic and technological success, getting ready to completely abandon Russia and its' endless demands, to which they were beginning to relate to with ever increasing disdain.

Until…during April and May of Estonia was under a massive attack on its computer network. These attacks were allegedly carried out as a response to the Estonian government's plan to remove the World War 2 memorial from the center of the capital city, Tallinn to a military graveyard in the city's outskirts, a pretty marginal location that seemed to offend the pride of the Russians that liberated Estonia.

A liberation regarded by many Estonians as conquering their country. In response, there was an uprising of Estonian citizens of Russian descend — one man was killed and many were injured. That seemed to conclude the matter. But that did not conclude the matter at all and things were just beginning. Apparently, it seemed like many Russians identified with the claims of Estonian citizens of Russian origin and also regarded transferring the statue as an insult and ingratitude towards the Russian nation concerning their World War II efforts.

People on Russian Internet forums and websites were furious and insults were thrown at the Estonians and there was a call for revenge. Within a short time an Internet cyber- attack was launched against Estonia by…somebody…many websites in Estonia that were handling traffic from surfers, doubled and tripled themselves.

This resulted in unbearable website burden and finally, the website collapsed. Tens of thousands of computers that were members of one network bombed Estonian websites with messages and later during the month many cybernetic attacks were carried out against public and economic Internet infrastructures, including the President and the Prime-Minister's websites, the websites of the Ministries of Communications, Foreign Office, Interior, the Parliament, websites of political parties, banks, media and Internet providers — all of which collapsed after being flooded with tens of millions of spam emails.

So the people of Estonia were stuck, without email services. There were various kinds of attacks, including blacking out Internet sites, destroying computerized data and so on. The websites of Estonian banks also collapsed and the citizens couldn't use them.

This damaged tax collection, emergency lines were cut off in the country for an hour, private and public communication were also damaged. A lot of these attacks made servers and Internet sites collapse. In general, the public and world trust concerning Estonia's economy was damaged. On that day a particularly massive attack was launched against Estonia, shutting down websites, as well as many private and public computers.

From here on, Estonia was careful not to upset Russia nor Putin in regards to any matter whatsoever. The Estonian government's suspicions regarding the Russian government were based on the fact that some of these attacks were performed in such a sophisticated manner that can only be explained by assuming there's a significant mechanism behind this, rather than a private person. Traces from the attack have lead to different countries, from Vietnam to the United States, and most of them were carried out from computers with private addresses.

Although it has been found that attacks were also carried out from computers controlled by Russian governmental institutions, yet one cannot determine whether this use was carried out by these institutes or not.

I can tell you now that in the framework of an examination that we've carried out, we found the technology and fingerprints of a company called 'Francine — Information Systems'. It turns out that the Israeli happened to be in Estonia at the time. He arrived on the day before the attack was launched, along with other people from his company and left shortly after the end of the attack. Kalinka went on with her lecture — this time the presentation showed a photo of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

Several months later, a similar attack took place in Georgia. During the summer of a dispute broke out between Russia and Georgia, after Georgian forces entered the region of South Ossetia — whose sovereignty was under dispute, since it was inhabited by Russian citizens, yet Georgia claimed sovereignty over it as one of its' districts. In response, Russia sent the army to Georgia's borders. Yet even before the Russian military intervention in the region of South Ossetia, cybernetic attacks were performed on a large scale against Georgia, mainly against governmental websites, including the website of the Parliament and that of the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the Ministries of Defense and Education, media entities, banks as well as eminent private Internet bodies such as various blogs and servers.

These attacks went on for about a month and continued even after the initiation of a ceasefire between Russia and Georgia. Although in Georgia the Internet services were less important and less sophisticated than in Estonia and thus the country was less damaged, public services were still damaged, especially the government's ability to communicate with the public and the availability of the banks, which have been cut off the net for ten days, as a matter of precaution.

The cybernetic infrastructures were damaged, but most of the damage was more of a matter of image, without long term influences. But on the other hand, this had a severe influence as far as the morale of Georgia's residents. From here and onward, Georgia preferred not to protest to loudly against the Russian dominance in the area. Here too, as during the attack on Estonia, clear-cut evidence proving that the attack came from Russia was not found, but there's a still a highly likely possibility that this was part of psychological warfare launched by the Russians against the Georgians.

On both occasions he arrived the day before the attacks were launched and left the day after, together with his crew members. Dimitar nodded his head: Obviously there were many people in Estonia and in Georgia during this time that had nothing to do with the attacks.

Even though we did not find the Internet imprint of 'Francine — Information Systems' there. They're continuing to progress. His company has the required technology. They do handle fighting against cyber-crime and Internet fraud.

They present themselves as being among the world's best experts in this field. And this is probably true. I've spoken with the Georgian and Estonian intelligence services representatives and they're both convinced that the Israeli was at least connected to these attacks under Russia's service, yet they have no clear cut proof of this. They also weren't very excited about carrying out an in-depth examination of someone correlated with espionage and serving Russia, fearing that they might be punished for this.

Kalinka smiled a sad smile: Only this time he's more developed and sophisticated than how he was in Estonia and in Georgia. A gloomy atmosphere took over the room. Everyone realized the implications. Vast quantities of vital information regarding Bulgaria's security have now fallen into enemy hands. And who was the enemy? An Israeli lecturer in Bulgaria, a land fraudster? Or was he a lot more than that?

Was he also a spy and a terrorist? This could be just the tip of an iceberg of a plot by someone far more dangerous? Dimitar recalled another quote from Gulyashki's novel, ' Sophia in Flames ': In the meantime, we'll remain without a website and maybe we'll stay that way. We cannot afford to be online anymore. Our enemies are taking-over all of our information. At the end of the day we can no longer hold any data on computers, wide open to the Internet network — we shall have to return to primitive yet more effective methods, safety-wise.

The attack on the SANS now seemed like a repetition of the attack on Estonia and Georgia, yet integrating newer technology. Our technical staff cannot cope with it. Dimitar addressed his employees: Or proof that they've been framed by somebody else. And if it is them — find me the person behind them. And why now of all times? If there's a reason why they would attack us so clearly — I'd like to know what it is.

The Russians have always been Bulgaria's best friends, they were Bulgaria's patrons, Bulgaria's big brothers. They've always helped Bulgaria. Bulgaria always knew that if something would happen, it always could and should trust the Russians to make everything right.

He was not naive. In this world anyone who believed, anyone who was a sucker would be quickly overtaken by dangerous elements. Was it possible that criminal factors within Russia's highest levels decided to loot Bulgaria? He knew that the highest levels there would use the law to plunder any businessman who was too successful. They may have decided to expand their field of operation to Bulgaria. If this turns out to be the situation than there really is no choice. Bulgaria and him must go on a battle.

He took his special umbrella and went out onto the rain. He marched along the dark alleys of rainy Sophia and emphasized that he was under surveillance. Two suspicious looking people that looked like violent and dangerous thugs were coming near him. He was shocked and amazed. Did they know who he was? Their intentions were clearly violent. One of them was holding a knife and the other had a gun.

W ithout words, Dimitar pulled out the umbrella's special handle. When the knifer came at him, he shot a platinum bullet at him. The poisonous gas Ricin was splattered all over the thug's face.

The man started this awful cough and fell down, but Dimitar had no time to look at him, since he was busy neutralizing the other guy. The owner of the gun was trying to pull the trigger when the umbrella shot sharp pins at him that penetrated the assassin's eyes and mouth.

Dimitar would have sufficed with that, but the man continued pressing the gun's trigger while twitching. The gun fired a bullet and missed. The man tried pressing the trigger once more. Since he had no other alternative, Dimitar came closer and pressed his throat with the umbrella.

The man made these awful dying grunts and passed away. Dimitar was mad at himself. Although he was merely defending himself, he was also being too impulsive and this was not smart. The man should have been allowed to stay alive so that he could be questioned as to who sent him.

It was Oleg, who was running and approaching him. He was feeling sick to his stomach. It's been a long time since the last time he was active in such street fights, when he was the service's champion in Judo and in other types of martial arts. He went to the injured guy and pulled out his wallet. He also had the emblem of a policeman from Varna's police force. He examined the wallet and was shocked. There was something else there.

Somebody, Dimitar was thinking, is now using a great deal of resources, including corrupt policemen, in order to damage the SANS. Everything that happened in Estonia, whatever happened in Georgia, was only a trial, merely a rehearsal.

The real showdown was going to take place in a bigger place in Bulgaria. The attack on the SANS was merely preparatory. The agents of the 'big brother' mother Russia are planning to go all of the way against Sophia's entire infrastructure. They plan on ruining its' entire technological infrastructure, rendering it helpless, crying for the help of 'Mother Russia'. He had a chill run down his spine when he thought about what might happen if Bulgaria's technological infrastructure would suddenly be destroyed.

Hundreds of thousands of people that depend upon these technologies would find themselves paralyzed, or even worse off. He was thinking about the awful accidents that would be caused as a result of a sudden paralysis of the computer services. About the banks that would stop functioning as a result of the shutdown of the computers.

About the complete and utter deadlock and paralysis that would take hold of the economy and of daily living. He was engulfed with a feeling of being double-crossed. If it was Russia that was behind all of this, it has thus betrayed it's loyal sister. If the Israeli was the one behind everything — Bulgaria has given the Israeli a home in its' territory and this was his payback?

Spying on its' security services and sabotaging its' technological means. He vowed that the SANS would investigate all of this thoroughly.

Someone had to pay for this and pay dearly. And as always, he would calm himself down, the threat is severe, but like everything else, it's merely temporary. Lately, I've been working on this suspense and espionage novel — the plot is based on various real events and on current ones taking place at the moment in Russia and in East Europe and their implications, in all that concerns Israel. A certain party had already expressed interest in turning this story into a film, but just how far ahead we'll progress with plan this is yet uncertain.

On second thought, why should this be just in the format of a prose novel? Why not turn it into a graphic novel — into a comic book, to go along with the written novel? This way it could reach a lot more people and especially young people. As we all know, in Israel there are very few comic books that deal with things like espionage, suspense and politics, so in that sense this is going to be a groundbreaking event.

Unfortunately, there are also very few comics illustrators with visual drawing capabilities that would be in accord with this specific kind of story. One of the best and most eminent illustration artists is talented Vladik Sandler , with whom I've already cooperated in the past when he illustrated the stories in the book I've written for Uri Fink: Vladik has already responded to my request and illustrated a charming poster describing the characters and giving us some sort of impression of what to expect in the novel.

The problem is recruiting capital. Such a graphic novel requires in-depth research in order to be able to specifically describe particular details in regards to Bulgaria and Russia etc.

For me as a writer, as well as for Vladik as an illustrator. We shall have to recruit at least double the amount of money that has ever been recruited in the past for the publishing of any graphic novel, so we're going to need sponsors. Later on we shall see if the project progresses to the stage of public fund-raising or crowd-funding.

So, making a long story short:. Summary of the story see here: The lights of Varna were glittering from above. The Israelis that were flying to Varna on the aircraft provided no great contribution to his peace of mind.

As always, it was a riffraff of loud lowlife Israelis in flashy outfits, shouting and cursing to high heaven, being extremely rude and vulgar, even for Israelis flying to Bulgaria on a casino holiday… Most men were wearing outlandish clothes and were adorned with gold chains, bracelets, rings and even gold teeth… Most women were overweight and were wearing skirts that were once in fashion.

He knew that all of them wanted the same thing: Meanwhile, one of the women in the aircraft started yelling at the stewardesses and cursing them like crazy: The women was cursing nonstop for half an hour, while her spouse, who seemed like a retired gangster, was sitting calmly with his eyes closed and a faint smile upon his face. The others were oblivious and were scornfully glancing at the frightened stewardess. Alas, when one of the stewards came and tried to defend the shocked stewardess from the downpour of profanity, the 'quiet' husband had a raging outburst: The fat passenger remained in his seat and didn't seem to be excited by the commotion.

These kind of things happen on every flight to Bulgaria. Nevertheless, the disrespect he was already feeling for the other passengers was further intensified — if that was even possible…. Finally, he managed to fall asleep. In his dream, all Israeli men and women had just one neck. He was dreaming about the moment he'd pull out a long machete and slowly slit this throat, with shear pleasure and slow motion movements, and would finally sever it off, to the applauds of invisible spectators, and by doing so would do his bit of cleaning the planet from the filth the earth was swarming with.

To his regret, as always, he'd wake up from the dream just a minute before seeing the body's severed head…but the feeling of pleasure remained. But this time, when he reached Varna, he had no time for casinos, nor did he have time to tour the streets.

As always, the place had such a strong stench, he was just about to faint. Varna reminded him of South Tel-Aviv on a particularity bad day of blazing heat, only with much more garbage out in the open. One of the problems with Bulgarians is that they simply don't know how to clean their streets properly. Garbage and filth were accumulating everywhere. If anyone in the corrupt Bulgarian regime had any sense whatsoever, they would pay to bring Muslim workers from Turkey so they would properly clean up the garbage.

But that, he knew, would be asking for trouble. The Turks presented a threat to Bulgaria and every Turk and Muslim entering the country would be under surveillance. Was it a mere coincidence that not even one Bulgarian literary novel was ever translated into Hebrew, despite the fact that Israel had a very large community of Bulgarian Jews, who spoke Bulgarian?

The main problem, thought the fat guy, was not their dirty streets, nor their definitely second rate food, neither was it their casinos nor the women, which he actually pretty much favored. Mostly blonds with a somewhat thick expression on their faces, yet a serious person could reach common grounds with them.

Mostly blonds with a somewhat thick expression on their faces, yet a serious person could reach common grounds with them. The main problem was their intelligence services.

He had never met such a bunch of fourth rate crooks, violent, non-sophisticated, brainless thugs. Whenever the Communists wanted the West to capture an agent from the Eastern Bloc, they always sent a Bulgarian, knowing that he'd get caught immediately…. But as a serious person, and he'd always relate to himself as a serious person, he had to use whatever was available. But until it would finally beburied — just like once, ten thousand years ago, the waves of the Black sea washed over and flooded the developed culture that had once existed there, as if the place was biblical Sodom, and maybe this is where the Deluge myth actually came from — he wanted to milk the town for some more money.

As much as possible, until the present Sodom named Varna would be destroyed as well. And one of the ways to achieve this was where he was heading to right now. Vasilevski wanted him to come over — and obviously, when someone from the FSB successor of the KGB wants to see you — you don't refuse…So he arrived at the Russian Consulate on Macedonia street in Varna.

The street, much like any other street in Varna, has seen better days and looked like any other building in Bulgaria — polluted and ready to collapse at any given moment. He glanced around carefully, making sure nobody was watching him enter the premises. He certainly wouldn't want the folks at the University to know about his close relations with the Russians. The gloomy guards gave him the usual overall inspection, even know they knew him very well. He was wondering whether they were thinking that one day he'd just pull out a gun and start shooting everyone there.

There were definitely some good reasons to do so. The fat guy enters the room of the Vice Consul — which was his official title, while his real role was with Russia's federal security services, representing the interests of the FSB. Go figure, even if they were telling the truth, as far-fetched as it may sound, back then Putin was stationed in East Germany and held nothing more than a gray mid-leveled rank. How many people could he have possibly known back then? But still, rumors were circulating — rumors which were probably circulated by Putin himself — that back then he was already well-acquainted with a young Chemist named Angela Merkel, nowadays the Chancellor of Germany.

But go figure…anyhow, Vasilevski seemed like the type of person that would be acquainted with Putin not back in the old days, but today. The Russian's face was reddish, hinting of a nearly endless capacity for vodka. The mane of his hair was white, yet his eyes were as cold as ice. Every time he'd meet him, ever since his first visit to Bulgaria, when Vasilevski recruited him, the fat guy would get this vague sense of fear and feel a chill down his spine — he know that he had a good reason to be afraid.

I've heard that you've been invited to other countries — Austria, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic…well done! The real answer was: Despite all of the money spent and the media advertising regarding the Internet hustlers that have supposedly been caught, and despite addressing the general public and asking them to send information reporting about various online hackers and scammers — the actual success rate so far was an absolute zero — nada — nothing. He came across the idea after experiencing Internet fraud himself by being scammed.

He can still sense the uttermost rage and frustration he was feeling, the minute he'd realized that he's been 'taken for a sucker'. The investment he's put into the company was entirely taken from the money that people given him so that he'd buy them land in Bulgaria, but meanwhile, this investment was not paying off, and he had to keep on making a living as a lecturer, and of course — in addition to that he had to continue handling these shady ordeals.

Vasilevski shook his head in sympathy. The fat guy gazed at the Russian with suspicion. Vasilevski was well aware of the fact that the land market was dead and gone. Vasilevski know a whole lot more than that. There is not wrong with of the fact that. You go on receive your competition! It also begins to build their confidence in making decisions.
